Here at Fatbacks, we think St. Jude is so inspiring, so generous, that we decided we should find even bigger ways to give back. So after some thinking, preparing, and some researching, we've came up with an unparalleled way to create a HUGE splash for our beloved Hospital! Wednesday, August 1, we're pairing with our most ardent givers, placing the donating power in the hands of our spectacular customers: YOU! Fatbacks is barbecuing with St. Jude all day long and offering 10% of all proceeds to go towards the courageous children and intensive research at St. Jude.

Did you know that every year, nearly 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide?

St. Judes research says that, "The causes of childhood cancer are not completely understood. While adult cancers are often linked to lifestyle or environmental factors, cancer in children is different in several ways.

In a young person, cancer is less likely to be caused by the patient’s environment or lifestyle. Instead, cancer-causing genetic changes (called mutations) are most commonly thought to occur by chance. However, in a few cases children are born with genetic changes that increase their risk of getting cancer.

Learning what genetic changes caused a cancer can help doctors diagnose it more effectively. Going forward, this information may also help scientists develop better treatments."

Even in the fast paced, never ending, technologically driven world that we live in, there is still so much more to learn. Team Fatbacks is grateful to have such a passionate and dedicated group of geniuses searching everyday to find out how to give kids the fighting chance that they deserve to live in this amazing, God-given world.

AdAge.com says that, "St. Jude's beginnings were humble, created by the late actor Danny Thomas as a tribute to the patron saint of lost causes. Its mission -- to treat catastrophically ill kids without regard for ability to pay -- was novel in an era when cancer was almost always a death sentence."
